Pulling some strings…

Testing out some new functionality on the site, thought I’d share another pic. from a boudoir shoot back in August.

Enjoy. :)

Modeling Tip: Always Check References!

Overall, modeling is a pretty safe profession, but like every profession there are a few ‘bad apples’. Before working with a photographer for the first time, always check their references.

Before I work with any model I will check references. I suggest you do the same with every photographer you work with, including me. Look at their portfolios on the modeling sites and contact the models you see. Ask anyone you check with a few basic questions:

1- Was the photographer professional?
2- Did they keep their word, and give you your images and/or payment promptly and as agreed?
3- Would you work with that photographer again?

Also, check more than 1 reference. 1 person is an opinion, several is a track record.

Just because someone is on a ‘friends list’ doesn’t mean they recommend them.”Friends” on social networking sites are meaningless in most cases. Some people collect them, some limit them to well knowns. Some just ok anyone who asks. So seeing a name on a list of “friends” means little.

Also, be aware there are a lot of petty jealousies and clicks. Verify that the person has in fact actually worked with your reference, and that the person you’re checking with isn’t just going on some bitter and grumpy nutcase’s defamation. Be especially leery of “daddy” types who will “protect you”, while pressuring you or trying to intimidate you to compromise your limits.

We have extensive reviews on photographers and models on WNYModelPhotography.com and we check references on all our members. No flakes, creepers or pervy old control freaks allowed.

I repeat, Check references. Check them well.

It’s the difference between a great shoot and a bad experience.

Martial Arts Master’s Portraits

A lot of my visitors come here having seen my martial arts work, but some haven’t.  Here are a few samples of some of the specialty portraits I’ve done for some of the leading martial arts instructors.

If you’d like to see more, or are a martial artist interested in commissioning your own unique portrait, you can see more examples at http://martialphotos.com/.

2011 Erie County NY Fair

This year I placed twice in competition at the 2011 Erie County Fair. 2 honorable mentions. Lots of good work up this year.  My wife took 2 1st place ribbons.  Stop by the Creative Arts building and take a look at all the entries. :)
