Questions
and Answers:
What
is "TFP"?
"Time for Photos" or TFP for short, is a mutual collaboration between
a photographer and a model. The photographer agrees to shoot the model at no
charge and give photos in lieu of paying a modeling fee. This synergistic session
allows the photographer and model to try new ideas and perfect new techniques,
while bringing to life new images for both the model and photographer's portfolios.
Both parties are responsible for their own expenses and travel.
So,
what's this "TFCD"?
TFCD is "Time for CD". You will get a copy of the pictures taken
on CD in return for your time.
Why
do TFP?
Under normal circumstances, a model would pay my regular rates for a photo
shoot. However, I will gladly consider a TFP arrangement if the model's look
is suitable for something that I want to shoot, if I want to update my own
portfolio or test out new photographic techniques, or if you have a unique
idea for a photo shoot that I like.
How
do you do things?
The way I do TFP is slightly different. You will be given a CD which will include
high quality web resolution images from the shoot. The best images will be
retouched and post-processed, if necessary. There will typically be between
five and
ten
photos depending upon the length of the session. These photos are for your
non-commercial use. You will receive this CD within two weeks of the shoot.
You will also receive a high quality professional print of each of the shots
in an 8x10 format. I do not release all shots from the shoots, unless you buy
the negatives.
How
long will this take?
A shoot can be as short as an hour, or stretch to several, depending on how
well we work together, the weather, etc.
I will ask that you sign a model release form for TFP photography.
What
types of photos am I looking to do?
I'm looking for "everyday wear" (ie tee shirt and jeans, etc), costume
and swim wear (once the weather is warm). I'm looking to shoot at some of the
local parks such as Losson and Evangola due to their having some excellent
scenery for background. The idea is a relaxed and fun series that we can both
be happy with. I'm open to your ideas on poses, positioning, and themes as
these shoots are to me a joint effort between us.
Will
I be paid?
Not usually in cash. A TFP shoot is basically a trade of time for pictures.
You will receive a copy of the pictures for your own use.
Who
provides makeup / wardrobe?
You do. On a few shoots, I may provide certain props as needed.
What
types of clothing should I bring?
Street wear. Costumes (like renfaire clothing) and swimsuits (if you are comfortable
being photographed in them, and the weather is warm enough) also are good. "Gothy" style
clothing also is good. I'm also open to ideas on themes, etc.
What
about lingerie, see thru or nude?
Sometimes. While I have no problems doing those types of shoots, the locations
I have in mind will not work for them. If you are interested in doing those
types
of shoots, let me know and we can work out the details separately.
Can
I bring someone with me?
As long as they are someone you can relax around and be yourself, certainly.
Why
should I do TFP/test shoots?
There are a number of different reasons for doing this, such as:
-Getting a photo variety of different styles and themes to develop a balanced
portfolio.
-Wanting to try new and different ideas.
-To express creativity.
-To gain experience.
What
will you do with the photos?
A few select ones will go into my online and print portfolio, some will be
made available as purchasable prints.
Can
I sell copies of my pictures?
No. Neither you nor I can sell prints from these shoots. They are intended
to help us both build our portfolios and try new ideas.
What
can I do with them then?
You can use them in your own portfolio, give them away or share with friends
and family.
What
if I or you want to sell them?
In the event that we achieve an image that we believe is saleable, we can discuss
terms. I'm very open minded on such things. My usual arrangement is an equal
split in profits from print sales.
Do
I need to sign a model release?
Yes. A signed model release is required for all my shoots, and includes what
both our rights are in regard to these pictures.
Do
you have samples of previous work I can see first?
Yes. You can check out other shoots I've done at http://www.rustaz.com/gallery/
